Dermorphin | Neuropeptide - Omizzur

Dermorphin is a type of opioid peptide that is a type of neuropeptide with strong analgesic activity. Dermorphin contains 7 amino acids and was first discovered in the skin of South American tree frogs. It is a peptide substance produced in organisms that has physiological effects similar to morphine.

Dermorphin has not been found in the skin of humans or other mammals, while similar D-amino acid peptides are only found in bacteria, amphibians, and mollusks. This means that it is generated through unusual post-translational modifications carried out by amino acid isomerases. This unusual process is necessary because the D-alanine in the peptide is not included in the 20 amino acids encoded in the genetic code, so the peptide cannot be synthesized from the coding of the organism genome in the usual way.
