How long does reconstituted peptides last in fridge
As we know peptides are made of amino acids. Different sequences and lengths of amino acids can form different peptides. Scientists have developed many peptide products with unique functions, they play an important role in the field of medical and beauty & health care.
Popular and hot products in recent years market include semaglutide, exenatide, BPC-157, Melanotan 2, PT-141, etc. They all have excellent and different functions and are deeply loved by people all of the world.
Peptides are stable. Normally they are in powder form in vials or tube. But the reconstituted peptides need to be placed in the fridge and used as soon as possible. Below is a list of storage of reconstituted and in powder peptides.
Keywords: how long does reconstituted peptides last in fridge?
Peptide form | Room temperature | 2-8°C | -20°C or -80°C |
Powder | 3 weeks | 3-6 months | 2 years |
Solution | 2-3 days | 1 weeks | 1 month |
(** The data in this list are not 100% accurate. Different products, different PH and other factors will affect the storage period. Please ask your customer services for help before using product.)
The usual storage for reconstituted peptides is 2-8°C. It is the temperature of the fridge. Place the peptide solution in the fridge, sealed and shielded from light, it can be stored for about 5-7 days. You will need to use it up as quickly as possible. Otherwise it may fail and affect the effect.
Peptide Storage FAQs
All products labeled to be freeze-dried must be stored under frozen conditions, for exampl below -10 to -20°C. Many peptides can maintain activity for many years.
Peptide solutions are much less stable than powders. For best results, follow these:
1. Repeated freezing and thawing will damage the activity of the peptide. Packed it in small size.
2. Dissolve in sterile buffer solution with pH 5~7 and store at -20℃.
3. Bacteria can decompose peptides and must be sterilized before storage.
Peptide solutions may bacterial degradation. To avoid this, the peptide should be dissolved in sterile distilled water, or filtered with a 0.45 or 0.2 μm pore size filter for sterilization.
During experiments, when using frozen peptide products, vials and test tubes need to be brought to room temperature in a drying box filled with fresh desiccant before opening the cap.
For products stored at -20°C, this process takes more than 1 hour, depending on the size of the package. Otherwise, when the bottle is opened, water will enter, and the stability will decrease.
Normal peptide freeze-dried powder can be stored at -20°C for more than one year. For reconstituted products, it is recommended to store them at -20°C .
If reconstituted peptide solutions need to be stored, it is best to store them in small volumes and avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
The best way to storage peptides is: for peptides that require long-term storage, they should be stored in the form of lyophilized powder in a sealed container containing a desiccant and stored at -20°C. (-80°C is more effective).
This can minimize the degradation of peptides, avoid degradation and oxidation by bacteria, and avoid the formation of secondary structures. Most peptides can be stored for more than half a year using this storage method, and peptides with less stability can be stored for more than 3 months.
1.At room temperature, or place an ice pack. (Most peptides are not sensitive to room temperature)
2. Long-term storage conditions of peptides: avoid light, -20℃, the lower the temperature, the better, such as -80℃. (Generally, it can be stored for 6 months to 2 years)
3. Short-term storage conditions of peptides: avoid light, 4℃.
4. Peptide solution storage: pH should be as acidic as possible, such as 5-6, -20°C, and sterilized buffer solution should be used. (It is generally not recommended to store peptides after being dissolved. You must learn to use the peptide company’s packaging service and package according to your own usage.)
5. No matter what kind of the type of storage, sealing film must be used to seal the cap and body of the bottle to prevent moisture or air from entering the bottle. Remeber avoid direct sunlight or high temperatures.
Dissolving peptides is a very important step. Wrong dissolution may result in peptide loss and lead to fail. The solubility mainly depends on the sequence of the peptide. So pay attention when designing them. It is recommended that the sequence should contain 20% charged residues to increase its solubility.
