General Description

Carperitide Peptide from Omizzur Lab

Carperitide is a peptide composed of 28 amino acids with a stable secondary structure. It is a circulation regulating hormone that plays a role in vasodilation and diuresis. Carperitide was first isolated from the heart of mammals. Carperitide is also known as atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) (1-28).

In clinical practice, the vasodilation caused by drugs mainly composed of Carperitide is due to its binding to ANP (atrial natriuretic peptide) receptors in vascular smooth muscle, which enhances the activity of guanylate cyclase, suggesting that it can reduce the pre - and post cardiac load.

Carperitide is a recombinant atrial natriuretic peptide used in Japan to treat heart failure. Carperitide was developed by Japan's Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. and was first approved for market in Japan in 1995. As an important cardiovascular drug, Carperitide has achieved the highest level of research and development approval for marketing worldwide. Its application in the treatment of heart failure provides patients with an effective treatment option.

What is Heart Failure?

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome characterized by typical symptoms such as dyspnea, ankle swelling, and fatigue, which may be accompanied by signs caused by structural and/or functional cardiac abnormalities (e.g. elevated jugular vein pressure, pulmonary burst sounds, peripheral edema), resulting in decreased cardiac output and/or increased intracardiac pressure during rest or stress periods.

It is understood that heart failure affects over 64 million patients worldwide. In patients with heart failure, myocardial cells release atrial natriuretic peptide and brain natriuretic peptide to protect the heart. These peptides activate downstream signaling pathways through NPR1 receptors, helping to reduce venous pressure and improve heart function.

Currently, there are drugs on the market for the treatment of heart failure:

In 1999, the first NPR1 agonist Carperitide was launched in Japan and was the earliest peptide drug used for acute heart failure;

In 2001, the FDA approved the marketing of the recombinant human brain natriuretic peptide drug, Nasilide, for the treatment of acute heart failure;
