With the advancement of science and technology, peptides, which are compounds between amino acids and proteins, have gradually attracted people's attention.  More and more active peptides have been developed and widely used in medical, health, health care, food, cosmetics and other fields.

In peptide synthesis, the active side chain groups should be permanently protected to maintain stability during the deprotection reaction of a-amino groups and amino acid condensation reactions. Their permanent protection complements the temporary protection of a-amino groups to form orthogonal protection, and the protective groups are removed under certain conditions after all condensation reactions are completed. The side chain protecting groups of Fmoc-amino acids should be stable under alkaline conditions and can be removed under acidic conditions (TFA).

Common protective groups include Fmoc (9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl), Boc (tert-butoxycarbonyl), Z (benzyloxycarbonyl), etc. The conditions under which these protective groups can exist stably vary, and the methods for removing them also vary.  Specific choices can be made based on the needs of the reaction.

FMOC, BOC, and CBZ protected amino acids refer to amino acid derivatives in which the functional group of the amino acid reacts with other groups to block the activity of the amino acid functional group. They can all be referred to as protected amino acids. It includes amino and carboxyl groups, as well as side chain functional groups.
